Gareth Southgate had hoped to name England’s squad unchanged for the World Cup clash against the USA with Harry Kane and Harry Maguire set to kick off

Gareth Southgate is expected to stay with the team that thrashed Iran for the game against the United States on Friday night.

The Three Lions dispatched Carlos Queiroz’s side 6-2 in their opener in a perfect start to their World Cup campaign.

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka scored twice and Borussia Dortmund’s impressive midfielder Jude Bellingham also scored in the win.

Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish then completed the scoring for Southgate’s men.

Meanwhile, the USA drew Wales 1-1 in their opener, with Gareth Bale equalizing and denying the stars and stripes on all three points.

England boss Southgate is expected to name the same squad and formation for Friday’s clash.

Harry Kane is expected to be fit, despite taking a knock, while defender Harry Maguire could start to recover from illness.

The 29-year-old England captain was pictured back in training after a scan on his ankle.

He is expected to start alongside Saka and Chelsea striker Sterling.

Southgate also played down any injury concerns in his pre-match press conference.

“Harry is good. It would be a brave decision to leave him out of the starting eleven,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maguire is expected to continue the centre-back partnership alongside John Stones, with Kieran Tripper and Luke Shaw serving as full-backs.

Bellingham and Rice will form part of the midfield along with Mason Mount.
