George Hiroto Abe, 89, of Hilo, died on November 26, 2022 in a private care home in Hilo. He was born in Hilo on May 29, 1933, and was a retired taro farmer, US Army veteran, member of the Kurtistown Jodo Mission, and avid bowler. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on January 29 in the Dodo Mortuary Chapel; memorial service will begin at 2 pm Dress casual. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings). He is survived by his wife, Joan Abe of Hilo; son, Brandon Abe of Ewa Beach; daughters, Shelly (Chad) Ogata of Hilo and Dawna Abe of Kapolei; brothers, Albert Abe of Los Angeles, California and William (Jane) Abe of Arizona; sisters, May Love of California and Kathleen (Wilfred) Arakaki of Pearl City; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Kananialika Lancaster
Kananialika Lancaster, 92, of Keaau, and formerly of Keaukaha, died on December 11, 2022 at Life Care Center in Hilo. She was born in Hilo and was a retired bricklayer with Jas. W. Glover, Ltd., a US Army Korean War veteran who was also a member of the Keaau Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation from 4 to 6 pm on January 26 in the Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation services at 6 pm Visitation also from 8:30 am to 10 am on January 27 at the Hilo Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral Service at 10:30 am Interment service will follow in Pavilion #2 of the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual outfit. He is survived by his sons, Bernard Lancaster of Kauai and Michael (Shana) Lancaster of Pahoa; daughters, Doreen (Wayne) Millare and Naomi (Terence) Wakuta of Kauai; stepchildren, Francisco Abadilla, April (Mark) Kealamakia, Phillip (Jean) Abadilla, George Abadilla, Faustino Abadilla, Sam (Tanya) Abadilla, Nephi and Samantha (James) Thomas; sister-in-law, Dawn Lancaster of Las Vegas; 28 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Thelma Naomi Lee, age 76, died on November 26, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she is retired from the Hawaii Tribune-Herald. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her sons Dennis Jr., Bruce, David and Chris, her brother William Miyasato of Oahu, her sister Christine Ostrow of Maine, her brother-in-law Gary Kawamoto, various uncles and aunts, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Alvah Miyamoto
Alvah Tsuyoshi Miyamoto, 97, of Hilo, died on December 7, 2022 at a nursing home in Hilo. A native of Hilo, he was a retired district engineer for the Hawaii State Department of Transportation Division of Highways and a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hilo Senior Golf Club, Highway Golf Club and University Heights Kumiai. Private services were held. The family does not request monetary gifts or flowers. He is survived by his children, Len (Cyndy) Miyamoto of Honolulu, Kurt Miyamoto of Arizona; daughter, Laura (Dr. Ian) Ebesugawa of Hilo; sisters, Ella Komine, Las Vegas, Joyce (Dr. James) Shimokusu of Wahiawa, Oahu; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
