Report: Indiana Pacers were ‘runners up’ for Rui Hachimura ahead of Los Angeles Lakers trade

Yesterday, the Washington Wizards traded forward Rui Hachimura to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kendrick Nunn and second-round picks in 2023, 2028 and 2029,” according to Marc Stein of the stein line (requires subscription).

Washington then sent him to Los Angeles, picking up draft capital and a guard in Nunn with a track record of success in Miami before a knee injury kept him out of the 2021-22 season. The Wizards, by many reports, prefer to keep Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis in their power forward combination for seasons to come. Thus, they had less room for Hachimura in his rotation: The 24-year-old is averaging 24.3 minutes per game this year, below his career average of 27.8.
