The UCSB Gauchos will travel to Honolulu and take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the Big West from the Stan Sheriff Center on ESPN+. Hawaii and UCSB have met 20 times, and the Gauchos lead the head-to-head series, 13-7.

UCSB improved to 16-3 after beating CSU Bakersfield at home. The Gauchos took a huge lead at halftime and held on to beat the Roadrunners by 18 points. UCSB is scoring 79.7 points per game, while allowing ppg and shooting 48.4% from the floor.

UCSB has won twelve of their last thirteen games, and they have a great opportunity to represent the Big West at the Big Dance this spring. another tough squad returns, and they go about seven deep. The inside out duo of Miles Norris and Ajay Mitchell. Norris, a 6-foot-10 senior, has upped things since the start of the conference, and after posting a season-high 24 points in a win over Bakersfield, he’s up to 13.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg as a team leader. . Mitchell, a 6’5 sophomore, led them across the non-conference slate with five straight 22-point outings, and leads UCSB in scoring (15.5) and assists (4.7). Cal Transfer Andre Kelly dodged a bullet migrating to Santa Barbara, and after doubling double in a win over Irvine, he’s averaging 9.2 ppg and 6.3 rpg.

Hawaii jumped to 15-5 after defeating UC Riverside on the road. The Warriors led the Highlanders at halftime and held on to leave Cali with a four point win. Hawaii is scoring 80.5 points per game, while allowing ppg and shooting 48.6% from the field.

Hawaii is 6-2 in conference play, and this home matchup with UCSB presents an opportunity for them to shake up the Big West standings. Hawaii plays tough, tough basketball, and they have an experienced starting five. Junior point guard Noah Coleman scored a game-high 25 points in a win over Long Beach State and is averaging a team advantage of 14.2 points per game. Senior forward Kamaka Hepa had a double-double against Irvine, and leads the Warriors in rebounding (7.4), while scoring 10.7 points per game. Joining him up front is Bernardo da Silva, and after doubling double in the win over Northridge, he’s putting up an identical 7.3 rpg, while shooting 10.5 ppg.

UCSB is 11-5-1 against the spread this season, with a 7-10 plus/minus record. Hawaii is 10-7 ATS this year, with a 9-10 o/u record.

UCSB is the team to beat in the Big West this season, and I think they send a message to the conference here. Hawaii will certainly give them a fight here, and with the top spot in the BWC on the line, you can expect to see the best of both sides here. I see UCSB as an attractive and profitable underdog here, and I like playing them here. Roll with the gauchos this Thursday night and never be scared of the Big West under too.
