We’ve seen countless versions of Good Old Saint Nick on screen and with the Christmas season just around the corner, we’re about to see another one, but this time, with David Harbour. However, Santa’s version of him has a very interesting twist: Santa may not be as holy and kind as he seems and he can actually kick ass. Literally. And if you think about it a bit, it makes sense. I mean, the man sneaks into people’s homes all over the world overnight once a year. He was bound to learn some moves. Anyway, here’s everything we know so far about violent night.
Plot and Synopsis violent night
violent night is a dark, twisted version of Santa Claus who, as it turns out, isn’t all about cookies, candy, and his legendary laugh. To think: die hard but it’s Santa Claus. In the trailer, we see a group of thugs break into the home of a wealthy family just waiting to celebrate Christmas to rob them and ransack their safe with over $300 million dollars inside. As they try to pull this off, Santa is making his annual Christmas delivery rounds when the kidnappers interrupt him when he lands on the roof of the house.
The trailer looks very promising and entertaining so far, with David Harbor donning a red hat and beard and using classic holiday items as weapons: candy canes, the bag he keeps his gifts in, ice skates, Christmas baubles, you name it. . Clearly, this Santa is taking his list of bad guys or good guys a little too seriously and we’re sitting down. Throughout the jam-packed clip, we see Santa use candy canes and ice skates to stab bad guys and leave hand grenades that coincidentally look like “chunks of coal” on his suit before releasing them. There’s also, of course, his reindeer team, who towards the end of the short trailer we get an amusing glimpse of.
violent nightThe official synopsis for ‘s reads as follows:
“From 87North, the nude producers of No one, john wick, atomic blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet train Y Fast and Furious Gifts: Hobbs & Shaw comes a pitch-dark holiday action-comedy that says you should always bet on red.
“When a team of mercenaries break into a wealthy family’s compound on Christmas Eve and take everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour, Black Widow, Stranger Things) he’s on the ground, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.”
cast of violent night
In the director’s chair is Tommy Wirkola, whose previous work includes hansell and Norwegian comedy-horror series dead snow. violent night Isn’t this your first attempt at transforming a classic story into something a bit darker and grittier with the one mentioned above? Hansel and Gretel retell, plus kill buljoit was a parody of Quentin Tarantino kill bill. As for the film’s script, all credits go to Pat Casey and Josh Miller, who previously worked on the recent Sonic the Hedgehog Films.
One of the most interesting parts of the film is its cast. Again, Strange things star David Harbor will play Santa Claus. He is joined by John Leguizamo as Ben, Beverly D’Angelo as Gertrude, Alex Hassell as Skyler, and Alexis Louder as Margie Matthews, as well as Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, and André Eriksen in the larger cast.
It has been confirmed that Ben de Leguizamo will be the main antagonist of the film, his character being the leader of the hired mercenaries who break into the house. As for the family, aside from being captive, they have their own separate dramas. His matriarch Gertrude (D’Angelo’s character) loves it when her children fight over her affections (because what dysfunctional Christmas movie isn’t complete without a parental authority who only wants her children to fight over who should be loved more), while his son and his estranged wife (played by Alex Hassell and Alexis Louder, respectively) do everything they can to spend the holidays together for the sake of their daughter Trudy.
Trudy is, of course, played by a great young actor in the form of Leah Brady, who Harbor is shown to have a great relationship with in the trailer.
In an interview with the hollywood reporter for the film, David Harbor shared some interesting insights into the making of the film.
“The best thing about Santa is that I was able to really dig into it,” the actor said. “We all sit down and tell our kids that a big, fat, jolly guy in a red suit comes down the chimney, eats some cookies, and gives you a present, but who is that guy? When you really start to get to the marrow and core of who this individual was, it makes a lot of sense.”
Furthermore, he described his experience in the film and his work with 87North as one of his most challenging physical roles to date. He said: “It’s by far the hardest physical thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. We started training at the beginning of December. and I felt an exhaustion like I had never felt in my entire life.”
When asked if you think violent night will become everyone’s regular Christmas movie rotation, the actor admitted he never considered it as a possibility during production.
“My intention is always to make a great movie,” he continued. “It’s never where he’s going to go, but the fact that people talk that way about [Violent Night] it’s kind of amazing. They’re like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be a Christmas movie that people will see,’ but I didn’t really think of that when I was making it. It was much more about this action movie with a heart, but you’re right. I look at a miracle on 34th street Y bad santa and all these movies during Christmas, so why wouldn’t it look that way? I just never considered it.”
