Women’s basketball visits newcomer A-10 Loyola Chicago

WASHINGTON- Fresh off a home win Sunday against VCU, the George Washington women’s basketball will hit the road for a game against Atlantic 10 newcomer Loyola Chicago. The meeting, which is the first between the two programs, begins Wednesday. at 12:00 pm with live coverage available nationally on NBC Sports Digital.

A-10 TRIPLE THREAT
Last time out against VCU, Mia Lakstigala, nya robertsonY Mayowa Taiwan all scored in double figures. The trio have had the ability to put together double-digit performances this A-10 campaign, as all three are averaging double-digit points in conference play.

Through the first seven games of the Atlantic 10 season, Robertson led the offensive charge with 14 points per game, followed by Lakstigala, who is averaging 13.6 per night, and Taiwo, whose scoring average sits at 10.3 points per game.

THE FIELD GOAL IS GOOD
In addition to his scoring numbers, Taiwo has been excellent at putting the ball through the hoop this year. Coming into Wednesday, the redshirt senior is shooting a blistering 61.8 percent from the floor in the A-10 game, which is a first in the conference. Overall, Taiwo is shooting at a rate of 53.4 percent, a number that is second best on the A-10 and 44the best in the NCAA.

Taiwo is currently on pace to crush a career-high shooting percentage of 48.3, which was set during his rookie season at GW. Taiwo is also on pace to become the first Colonial to shoot over 50 percent in a season since Ali Brigham in 2019-20 (50.4 percent).

NEW FACES IN NEW PLACES
Wednesday’s game against Loyola Chicago will be the first meeting between the two sides. The Ramblers will be the fifth first-time opponent GDUB will face this season, joining Wilmington (Del.), ETSU, Cal State Fullerton and Louisiana Tech.

Against first-time opponents this year, GW is 2-2 and has averaged 70.5 points. The team also shot 43 percent from the floor and averaged 10.5 three-pointers in those four games.

EXPLORING LOYOLA CHICAGO
Loyola Chicago is off to a rocky start to its inaugural A-10 season. The Ramblers, who are 1-5 in conference play, began their first Atlantic 10 season with a 60-47 win at Saint Louis. However, they have since lost five straight and been outscored by an average of 20.4 points in those losses.

Individually, Maya Chandler is the only Rambler to have a double-digit average (10.5). Junior Sitori Tanin is the team’s rebounding leader, averaging 4.7 rebounds.
